Design
The Xbox One S has a much compact design compared to the Xbox One. Microsoft developers managed to contain external power brick of Xbox One within the shell of Xbox One S. There are no bulky power bricks that are a hassle instead just a thin cord that runs from the console to the outlet.
Another noticeable difference in the design is that the Xbox One S units can stand vertically, which takes up a much smaller area when place near the television set. The S version also swapped the slits for holes, meant to cool the device.
Features
Being an upgrade of the original Xbox One, the Xbox One S has received several upgrades. One of the most significant features is that the latter supports 4K Ultra HD and 4K Blu Ray video playback, allowing you to stream 4K content from Amazon or Netflix on Xbox One S.
Although you would not be able to play 4K games on it, a 4K television can give you the required lift. Xbox One does offer Blu Ray player, but 4K discs are not supported by it.
The Xbox One S has removed the Kinect port from the device. Those that have a Kinect would have to use a USB adapter to be able to use Xbox One S. Instead of the Kinect the S has an IR blaster that lets you switch between all audiovisual peripherals using a single remote controller.

Controller
The Xbox One S features a new controller that has textured grip underneath, so it doesn’t slip off your hands easily of if you are too excited while playing a game. The Xbox One S controller works with Windows 10 computers, laptops, smartphones and tablets.
You just need to connect it through Bluetooth. The range of the controller is pretty cool almost double of what you used to get with the Xbox One.
Performance
Xbox One S features full support of HDR and 4K which definitely gives it additional points over the Xbox One. The former also provides better visuals during your gameplay but ensure you are using an HDR TV and can be upscaled to 4K if required.
The Xbox S also uses DTS: X Audio and Dolby’s Atmos for its audio system giving the users a truly immersive experience in gaming. Playing media through it gives an amazing user experience because it can stream 4K videos from Amazon and Netflix.
Although Xbox One is a powerful gaming console and the Xbox One S stands out for the superior features that have been added to it.
