Crows and raven are look-alike birds but have many differences. Common ravens and American crows are mostly found in North America and look identical. They both belong to the Corvidae family.

They both are omnivores and have a black glossy body with white and grey patches. Common ravens are less public than American crows in the Eastern United States.

Differences between Crow and Raven

• Apart from being look-alike birds, both crow and a raven have a physical Ravens are much bigger than crows, which make them the largest perching birds. The bill of the raven is also heavier as compared to the crow’s bill. Raven has thick and hairy plumage especially around the throat, but crows have a smooth texture. • Crows are social birds that move and forge in large groups called murders and live in a group of thousands of crows. Ravens are solitary birds that move in pairs of a small group for a lifetime. As compared to crow, ravens have more constancy while rising during flight and have reduced wing flapping. Ravens are also recognized by their acrobatic behavior. American crow-like to fly or stay in large open space wherein common ravens like hanging out in forests.
• Common raven has a curved knife-like beak and American crows have a straight beak. They both have hair spikes around their mouth, which is comparatively longer in ravens.
• Both birds are highly intelligent. In lab experiments, the common raven has shown traits of active planning and instinct control. The American crow is good in recognizing the face of people who attacked them.
